Every day,
Cambodian Red Cross Volunteers touch the lives
of thousands of people throughout the country.
Whether it be disseminating International Humanitarian
Law, demonstrating how to use abate in dengue
fever prevention, assisting survivors of disasters,
teaching first aid or donating blood, the programs
and work of CRC are all made possible by volunteers.
Cambodian Red Cross Volunteer programme was
established in 1992, with the International
Federation Red Cross Red Crescent in Cambodia
providing technical and program funding. |
Volunteers are recruited through each branch, with each
individual Program Department responsible for providing
recruitment direction and mobilizing the volunteers
to implement the services, especially with people from
rural areas.
VOLUNTEER SERVICES
CRC volunteers work tirelessly throughout the country
educating, training and making a meaningful and worthwhile
contribution to their communities. The RCVs are provided
with training in Red Cross Fundamental Principles, International
Humanitarian Law (IHL), Leadership Training, Refresher
Courses and program specific training.
They assist with the following CRC Programs:
•
|
Cambodia
Mine/UXO Victim Information System (CMVIS)
Currently there are 786 Volunteers working
in 21 provinces to maintain a system for
the collection, storage and dissemination
of information relating to mine/UXO casualties
in Cambodia. Not only do they undertake
current mine/UXO casualty information
collection, they verify historical mine/UXO
victim information, refer disabled people
to rehabilitation agencies and report
unexploded landmines and UXOs to mine
action agencies. |
| • |
Community
Based Disaster Preparedness (CBDP)
Currently there are 730 Volunteers working
in 9 provinces.
CRC volunteers work with communiites to
develop low-cost ‘micro--projects’,
which reduce vulnerability at the village
level. A preparedness training curriculum,
as a component of the CBDP program, was
developed through a participatory process
at the village level to identify and address
community issues. Training and mitigation
solutions (micro-projects) are implemented
in target communities using local community
resources.. |
| • |
HIV/
AIDS
The Goal of the HIV/AIDS program is to
contribute to the National Health Strategy
to reduce the impact of the HIV/AIDS infection
on the vulnerable through effective community
based prevention, advocacy and support
projects for high risk groups. Currently
there are 76 Volunteers working in two
provinces to disseminate HIV/AIDS/STD
information through role-play, games,
posters, pamphlets and workshops. Volunteers
work throughout the communities in schools
and workplaces. |
| • |
Land
Mine Awareness (LMA)
There are 500 LMA Volunteers working throughout
6 provinces throughout the community disseminating
Land Mine Awareness - in schools, in the
field, at home, in groups - through media,
especially targeting newcomers to the
highrisk areas. They train communities
about issues including: mine recognition,
UXO recognition, the consequence of mine
and UXO injury, superstition and bravery,
how to travel in unknown areas, areas
likely to be mined, mine warning signs,
how to evacuate from a mined field and
how to report a mine or UXO. |

Primary
Health Care

Volunteers promoting and providing health
promotion education services throughout
communities using posters, leaflets, training
and by talking to people. CRC’s
health activities in the community include
– community based first aid, community
based primary health care in urban and
rural settings and blood donor recruitment.
As well as these activities, trained volunteers
educate the communities on preventative
health care against infectious epidemics
including dengue fever, cholera, malaria
and STDs. |
|
 |
