Cambodian Red Cross Extraordinary General Assembly

In the afternoon of the 4th August 2010, at the Chaktomuk Conference Hall, the Cambodian Red Cross open its 5th General Assembly with the Royal Patronage of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath NORODOM SIHAMONI, King of Cambodia with participants from 189 official members and 390 national international guest of honor as observers. The observers are deputies prime minister, senior ministers, ministers and representatives of membership from government ministries/institution, the delegates from the ICRC and the International Federation Regional Delegations, the Cambodia based participating national societies, the National Red Cross Societies from Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, representatives from ethnic minorities, diplomatic mission, international and non-governmental organization, the 24 branches, members, volunteers and youth of the Cambodian Red Cross, whose presence has made the opening ceremony meaningful and solemn.

Lok Chumteav BUN RANNY HUNSEN gave her welcome remarks and extended her profound gratitude to His Majesty the King for giving the greatest honor to preside over the opening of the Fifth Cambodian Red Cross General Assembly and to national and international distinguished guests who attended the session. Lok Chumteav President delivered to His Majesty the King and the General Assembly members the summary report about the development and the key achievements that the Cambodian Red Cross has achieved during the fourth mandate concerning the four core areas which include:

1. Promotion of the Movement's Fundamental Principles and Humanitarian Value
2. Disaster Management
3. Health Education and Health Care in the Community
4. Organizational Development and Resource Development and Directions for the Fifth mandate. 

Lok Chumteav President, prayed that all the triple jewels of Buddha, sacred spirits in the world, Gods looking after the white parasol, power of the former Khmer Kings and Queens give all the best wishes to His Majesty the King of Cambodia, Their Majesties the King Father and the Queen Mother of Cambodia, for their personal good health to kindly take care of their people as children, grand children and great-grand children in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

In the opening of the General Assembly, His Majesty the King of Cambodia delivered a meaningful speech that the General Assembly can use it as guidance to define the strategy and direction for the upcoming 5th mandate. In the mean time, the General Assembly has the great honor to receive the Royal message from Their Majesties the King Father of the Khmer Nation, NORODOM SIHANOUK and the Queen Mother of the Khmer Nation, NORODOM MONINEATH SIHANOUK, the honorary president of the Cambodian Red Cross, to congratulate the 5th Cambodian Red Cross General Assembly with great appreciation of the General Assembly process. The General Assembly expressed profound thanks to His Majesty the King and their Majesties the King Father of the Khmer Nation, NORODOM SIHANOUK and the Queen Mother of the Khmer Nation, NORODOM MONINEATH SIHANOUK, the honorary president of the Cambodian Red Cross, who presented Royal donation worth 15,000 USD to the Cambodian Red Cross to support the CRC's activities. At the end of the opening ceremony, His Majesty the King of Cambodia had the pleasure to take souvenir picture with CRC members and other personalities as well as to have a look at the photo exhibition of the Cambodian Red Cross Humanitarian Services.

After that, the General Assembly started session under the Chairmanship of Lok Chumteav BUN RANY HUNSEN with the planned program and agenda, in which three main reports were presented to the General Assembly:

1. Four Year Activity Report (2006-2010) and directions for 2010-2014;
2. Four Year Financial Report (2006-2010) and Budget Plan ( 2010-2014);
3. CRC Strategy 2011-2020;

The General Assembly wrapped up its first day session at 19:00 pm.
